Typhoon Green Waste/Construction Debris Disposal Sites Hundreds of residents have availed themselves of typhoon green waste and construction debris disposal at sites jointly operated by the Department of Public Works (DPW) and Guam Environmental Protection Agency (GEPA) over the weekend. The sites are operated with essential support from the Guam Police Department.
Open daily from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm in Tamuning (OKA, Old GMH) and Barrigada (Tiyan), the sites are centralized collection points for green waste and construction debris only. Green waste includes trees, shrubs, branches, trunks, yard trimmings, grass clippings, and leaves. Construction debris includes lumber, plywood, gypsum board, glass, steel, corrugated tin and roofing.
Approximately 1,500 cubic yards of material has been accepted from hundreds of vehicles taking advantage of the convenient drive-thru system that has been put in place at both locations. Be advised: officials are monitoring for compliance (only green waste and construction debris as listed above) and have turned away vehicles with unauthorized debris.
Both sites are scheduled to remain open daily until Saturday, July 25.
Guam Power Authority Update GPA reports it is in Post-Typhoon Recovery Phase II. Line crews continue restoration work on distribution lines in villages with minimal damage.
Phase II encompasses repairs in all sectors of the island (north, central, south) with service restoration to as many customers with minimal damage as possible per feeder. During this stage of recovery some energized feeders may still leave pockets of isolated customers with extensive damage. Crews do their best to make immediate repairs; when that’s not possible they will return to make those repairs as soon as possible. GPA’s Smart Meter Network provides real-time outage and restoration information to the authority. Customers are asked to limit calls to the GPA Dispatch Center to critical issues such as downed power lines, blown transformers, low voltage conditions, or other situations that may present a safety concern.
Please stay away from all down lines and equipment as they may still be energized and can cause harm if you come in contact with the lines or equipment. NOW is the time to make an assessment of your home and property. In Post-Typhoon Recovery Phase III crews will return to complete repairs on isolated areas with extensive damages on overhead issues (defective transformers, debris on power lines such as bamboo trees, and other hardware component replacements) after all feeder distribution lines with minimal damages are restored.
GWA: Conserve is the Word
GWA continues 24 hour operations to restore reservoir levels and system pressure. While getting wells and booster pumps back online is a massive first milestone, nearly 120 are online as of the latest report, it does not mean the system can instantly handle normal water demand.
Restoring reservoir levels and re-pressurizing a storm-stressed water system is a methodical process that requires building up volume inside the system before full service can be restored. It takes time. Conservation is critical to restoring service stabilization and Emergency Water Conservation Measures Are In Effect. To protect the recovery, inspectors are checking for compliance with emergency conservation measures.
GWA has 43,646 customers. 2,521 in various parts of the island are still without water. GWA has deployed water tankers and flexitanks to areas experiencing low to no water pressure, including Santa Teresita Church, Mangilao, Chalan Palauan (Ironwood), Astumbo Senior Center, Machanao, (near UR Market), Piga Subdivision –all in Dededo, Barrigada Library, Chalan La Chance and Chalan Tomin, Yigo.
Water Quality Testing distribution system sampling and analysis continues as more of the distribution system is restored. Results are made public as soon as they become available.

NEGATIVE for total coliform. GWA's Utility Compliance Lab technicians will continue sampling as more of the distribution system is restored. Results will be reported to the public as they become available.
Precautionary Boil Water Notice for customers who sustain a loss of water service for 48 hours or more remains in effect. Customers who experienced a loss in water service for less than 48 hours may also wish to take precaution and are advised of the following:

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for three (3) minutes, and let it cool before using.

Boiled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice.

Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
All 5 wastewater treatment plants are online. 80 sewer pump stations are online, 53 on island power.
