Through collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense, Guam Waterworks Authority water production and distribution crews were joined today by representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assess and support GWA's emergency power needs for water and wastewater facilities. Assessments will support generator installations at critical production wells.
As of 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, GWA reported:
- 80 wells online — 27 on the island-wide power system and 53 on generator
- 19 booster pump stations online — four on island power and 15 on generator
- The Ugum Surface Water Treatment Plant, Santa Rita Springs, and the Tumon Maui well remain online on generator power
- Four wastewater treatment plants remain operational — three on generator power and one on island power
- 79 sewer pump stations online — 29 on island power and 50 on generator
All 99 water samples collected from July 7–9 are confirmed negative for total coliform, an indicator of possible bacterial contamination. GWA's Utility Compliance Lab collected two additional samples in Santa Rita today and will continue sampling as more of the distribution system is restored. Test results will be reported to the public as they become available. Sample results do not lift the precautionary boil water notice, which remains in effect for affected customers as described below.
Water service has been restored to parts of Santa Rita. Customers are reminded that outages and instances of low to no water pressure will continue during restoration as system adjustments are made at wells, pump stations, and reservoirs. GWA is aware of areas experiencing low to no water pressure.
A mandatory precautionary boil water notice remains in effect for customers who lost water service for 48 hours or more. Do not drink water without boiling it first: bring water to a boil, let it boil for three minutes, and let it cool before using. Use boiled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Customers who lost service for less than 48 hours may boil water as a precaution. This notice does not apply to customers who never lost water service.
Seven water tankers are currently staged at:
- Santa Teresita Catholic Church, Mangilao
- Chalan Palauan, Dededo
- Ironwood, Machanao
- Barrigada Library
- Chalan La Chance, Yigo
- Chalan Tomin, Yigo
- Talofofo Mayor's Office
An additional water tanker is being deployed to the Piga Subdivision in Dededo this afternoon. As additional tankers and flextanks are staged, official notification will be sent to the public. Residents should bring their own containers to store and haul water.
The community is reminded to practice strict water conservation and refrain from washing vehicles or pressure washing until all zones have been pressurized. Report water or wastewater issues, including low to no pressure, sewer backups, and overflows, to GWA Dispatch at (671) 646-4211 or dispatch@guamwaterworks.org.
CURRENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ADVISORIES
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam advises that several weather and marine hazards remain in effect this afternoon:
- Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5:15 p.m. for portions of Guam, including Dededo, Andersen Air Force Base, Talofofo, Inalåhan, Malesso', and Humåtak. Heavy rainfall may cause minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, water over roadways, and dangerous flows across low-water crossings. Motorists are urged to Turn Around, Don't Drown, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
- High Surf Advisory and High Rip Current Risk remain in effect until 4:00 p.m. for north-, west-, and south-facing reefs of Guam. Dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents continue. Residents and visitors should remain out of the water.
- A Small Craft Advisory also remains in effect until 4:00 p.m. Seas of 7 to 10 feet will continue to create hazardous conditions for small vessels. Inexperienced mariners should avoid operating on coastal waters until conditions improve.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official forecasts and advisories issued by the National Weather Service Guam.
