POWER RESTORATION UPDATE: SYSTEM LOAD AT 46%; PHASE II UNDERWAY; VILLAGE RESTORATION AREAS ANNOUNCED

Power Restoration Update

As of 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Guam Power Authority reported:

  • System Load Restored: 46%

  • GPA Substations Energized: 100%

  • GPA Feeders/Circuits Energized: 58%

  • Current Peak Demand for Generation Capacity: 96 megawatts (target demand: 255 megawatts)

Of the 67 distribution feeders and circuits, 39 are now partially energized, and all 30 GPA substations remain energized. As additional feeders are restored, the percentage of customers with power is expected to continue increasing. The next power restoration update is expected Friday morning.

GPA has entered Phase II of post-typhoon recovery, with crews working across the northern, central, and southern sectors to restore power to as many customers as possible in areas with minimal damage. Customers and areas with more significant damage will be addressed in Phase III.

During this phase of recovery, some feeders may be energized while isolated pockets of customers remain without power due to more extensive damage. Crews will return to restore service to those remaining customers after feeders without major faults have been restored.

Crews continue repairing distribution lines, supporting generators for water wells and wastewater service, and restoring power to critical infrastructure across the island.

Maps showing anticipated village restoration areas for the next one to three days are available on GPA's website and official Facebook page.

Residents are reminded not to approach or stop restoration crews to request restoration estimates. Interruptions can delay repairs and create safety hazards.

Typhoon Debris Disposal Site Open Today

The Government of Guam, in coordination with the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Guam Environmental Protection Agency (GEPA), has opened the official typhoon debris disposal site at Ypao Point, Tamuning (formerly the Guam Memorial Hospital site).

The site is for residential typhoon debris only. Commercial and contractor debris will not be accepted.

The site is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including weekends, through Saturday, July 25. Entry lines will close at 4:30 p.m. to allow the final vehicles to enter before closing.

Accepted materials include:

  • Green waste (trees, branches, shrubs, yard trimmings, grass, and leaves)

  • Construction debris (lumber, plywood, gypsum board, glass, steel, corrugated tin, and roofing materials)

The following materials will not be accepted:

  • Household garbage

  • Appliances (white goods)

  • Electronics

  • Hazardous waste

  • Tires and vehicle parts

  • Furniture

  • Plumbing fixtures

  • Biological or medical waste

  • Other non-approved materials

Residents should use alternate disposal methods for prohibited materials. For disposal information, contact the Guam Solid Waste Authority at (671) 646-3111.

Community members are reminded that access to the site is at their own risk. Wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing while unloading debris to help prevent injuries.

GHURA Housing Recovery Application Center Temporarily Closed

The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) announces that, following additional post-storm assessments, the Housing Recovery Application Center (HRAC) remains temporarily closed due to ongoing electrical and internet connectivity issues.

The Housing Recovery Application Center will reopen once electrical and internet service have been restored. GHURA will announce when services resume.

Stay Out of the Water - Conditions are Life-Threatening

Everyone should remain out of the water. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.

  • High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Friday afternoon. Rip currents will be life-threatening along south, west, and north-facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

  • High Surf Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. today, Thursday, July 9. Large breaking waves of up to 11 feet are expected along south- and west-facing reefs.

  • Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. today. Seas up to 10 feet will create hazardous conditions for small craft.
