As of 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Guam Power Authority reported:
- GPA Feeders/Circuits Energized: 37%
- GPA Substation Energized: 100%
- Current Peak Demand for Generation Capacity: 70 megawatts (target demand: 255 megawatts)
Of the 67 distribution feeders/circuits, a total of 25 are partially energized. All 30 major GPA substations are now energized.
GPA notes that no feeders or circuits can be energized unless a corresponding substation is energized. Its system load percentage will increase as more feeders and circuits come back online. GPA will update these figures once a day, unless conditions warrant an evening update. The next power restoration update will be shared Thursday morning.
GPA crews are prioritizing transmission line and substation work, generators for water wells and wastewater service, and urgent critical infrastructure across the island. Line crews have also begun restoring distribution lines and feeders in villages with minimal damage. Some energized feeders may still leave isolated outage pockets where damage is extensive. GPA will return to those remaining customers once all other feeders without faults are restored.
GPA is tracking outages through its Advanced Metering Infrastructure, or Smart Meter Network, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. These tools help confirm where power has been restored, identify customers still without service, and locate smaller outage pockets within villages. Customers are asked to limit calls to the GPA Dispatch Center to critical issues such as downed power lines, blown transformers, low voltage, or other safety concerns.
GPA understands residents are eager for service to be fully restored and thanks the community for supporting crews working across the island. Residents are asked to allow crews to work safely and without interruption. Stopping crews for restoration timelines can delay progress and create safety risks. GPA will continue providing daily updates as restoration efforts move forward.
15 GPA Crews Working 24/7
GPA’s continued island-wide restoration efforts are being conducted by a host of public servants, including 15 active line crews equipped with bucket trucks repairing and restoring the Island-Wide Power System (IWPS). These teams are working a minimum of 12-hour, day and evening shifts to ensure continuous 24/7 restoration operations.
GPA is awaiting the arrival of the eight bucket trucks, utility trucks, and step vans that are safely stored in Saipan. This equipment and vehicles are currently being coordinated for their return as soon as possible to Guam.
The crews are primarily utilizing 45-foot to 65-foot bucket trucks, which are the standard equipment used for the majority of restoration work, including repairs to transmission and distribution lines. GPA also has additional support trucks available, including a longer-reach 120-foot bucket truck and shorter-reach ones.
Stay Out of the Water - Conditions are Life-Threatening
Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening conditions. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.
- High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Friday afternoon. Life-threatening rip currents are expected along south, west, and north-facing reefs.
- High Surf Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday. Large breaking waves of up to 11 feet are expected along south- and west-facing reefs.
- The Coastal Flood Advisory has expired.
Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions continue, and localized beach erosion remains possible. Although surf will gradually diminish as Super Typhoon Bavi moves away from the Marianas, hazardous conditions will persist through Thursday, with an elevated risk of rip currents continuing through Friday afternoon. Everyone is urged to remain out of the water until conditions improve.
