George L. Charfauros Jr. was appointed as Homeland Security Advisor by Governor Eddie Calvo in April 2017.
He was born and raised in Malesso, Guam, graduated from Father Duenas Memorial School with honors, and served for 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
After returning home, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Guam in 1989. He also earned a Masters in Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2011
He completed the U.S. Army Senior ROTC program and received a commission as an infantry officer upon graduation.
He then served in the U.S Army Reserves and the Guam National Guard and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004-2005.
He served as the Director of Operations for the Guam National Guard from 2009 until he retired as a Colonel on January 2017.
His lifestyle includes CrossFit, jiu-jitsu, yoga, swimming and chess.
