There are no tropical cyclone watches or warnings in effect for Guam at this time. A Flood Watch is in effect for Guam through late Tuesday night.
State of Emergency / Condition of Readiness
- Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero has signed Amended Executive Order No. 2026-04, declaring a State of Emergency for the island of Guam in anticipation of the approach of Tropical Storm Bavi, effective immediately.
- Guam has been placed in Condition of Readiness (COR) 3 as of approximately 3 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2026.
- Typhoon Bavi continues to strengthen. As of the 11:52 a.m. ChST NWS Special Weather Statement, maximum sustained winds were around 90 mph, up from 80 mph as of the earlier 7:00 a.m. ChST bulletin.
- Bavi was located near 12.8°N 155.2°E, moving west toward the Mariana Islands at 15 mph.
- Bavi's eye is showing through the cloud deck, indicating continued strengthening and organization.
- This remains a significant threat for all of the Mariana Islands.
- NWS reports model trends suggesting a more southerly shift closer to Rota and Guam. It remains too soon to rule out any island from direct impacts, as forecast tracks can and will change.
- The system is anticipated to arrive around Sunday night into Monday morning.
- The NWS Hydrologic Outlook notes the possibility that Bavi could cross the Marianas as a strong Category 4, or Category 5, typhoon. This remains a forecast possibility, not a certainty, and may change.
- This is a forecast, not a guarantee. Track, timing, and intensity may continue to shift as Bavi approaches.
- A Flood Watch is in effect for Guam through late Tuesday night due to the potential for flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
- Typhoon Bavi is expected to produce 6 to 12 inches of rain for Guam, with locally higher totals possible. Showers are expected to begin Saturday and continue through at least Tuesday, with the heaviest showers beginning Sunday.
- The NWS Hydrologic Outlook estimates rainfall could approach 15 inches near the center of Bavi, with continued heavy rainfall increasing the risk of flash floods and mudslides as soils become saturated.
- Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas.
- Seas are forecast to build to 25 to 35 feet over Marianas coastal waters during Bavi's passage, possibly approaching 40 feet or higher near the storm's center.
- Surf may begin to exceed 20 feet as Bavi arrives.
- Coastal inundation could exceed 7 feet over wider reefs. Residents should prepare for the potential of significant coastal inundation.
- Guam is in COR 3. Complete preparations immediately.
- Review your household emergency plan now.
- Prepare an emergency kit with enough food and water for 7–10 days, including medication, disinfectant supplies, and pet supplies.
- Clear loose debris, secure outdoor items that could become airborne, and clear drainage areas and storm drains around your property.
- If living near streams or rivers, prepare to move belongings away from stream and river banks. Ensure nearby storm drains are not clogged, especially in low-lying areas.
- If using a generator, never run it inside a house, garage, or any enclosed space — even with doors or windows open. Operate outdoors only, at least 20 feet from your home.
- Secure important documents such as birth certificates, tax papers, and insurance documents and keep copies in a water-proof bag.
- Check on elderly and disabled neighbors and family members now to see if they need help preparing.
- Stay away from beaches and coastal areas as seas and surf build.
- Have multiple ways to receive updated storm information.
- Stay up to date with the latest information from NWS Guam (weather.gov/gum) and GHS/OCD.
GHS/OCD will continue to monitor Typhoon Bavi in coordination with NWS Guam and provide updates as the situation develops.
