Flood Advisory in Effect for Central and Northern Guam
Issued: September 9, 2026 — 7:30 a.m. ChST
The Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advises residents that the National Weather Service (NWS) Tiyan has issued a Flood Advisory for central and northern Guam, in effect until 9:00 a.m. ChST this morning, Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Current Status
Urban-area and small-stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Minor flooding is expected in low-lying and poor drainage areas, with water over roadways possible. Some low-water crossings may become impassable, and small streams may rise.
At 7:04 a.m. ChST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch expected. This additional rainfall will result in minor flooding.
Locations that may experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Hagåtña Heights, Andersen AFB, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, and Sinajana.
What You Should Do Now
Residents and motorists are advised to take the following precautions:
- Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
- Avoid low-lying and poor drainage areas until conditions improve.
- Monitor official updates from NWS Tiyan and GHS/OCD for changing weather conditions.
- GHS/OCD continues to monitor conditions in coordination with NWS Tiyan and will provide additional information as needed.
