Current Status
At 3:13 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall from thunderstorms. Between 0.8 and 1.6 inches of rain have fallen, and additional rainfall amounts of 0.8 to 2.2 inches are expected. This will result in minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, dangerous flows across low-water crossings, water over roadways, and overflowing poor drainage areas. Villages expected to experience flooding include Talofofo, Inarajan, Merizo, and Umatac.
What You Should Do Now
Residents are advised to take the following precautions:
- Turn Around, Don't Drown. Do not drive on flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
- Do not attempt to cross flooded low-water crossings. Southern Guam's hilly terrain includes many low-water crossings that are dangerous in heavy rain. Find an alternate route.
- Be aware of your surroundings and remain alert for water over roadways and overflowing drainage areas.
Marine Hazards
Additionally, a High Surf Advisory, High Rip Current Risk, and Small Craft Advisory remain in effect until 4 p.m. today. Large breaking waves up to 10 feet and life-threatening rip currents continue along north, south, and west-facing reefs as swells from Typhoon Bavi (09W) diminish. Residents should stay out of the water due to dangerous surf and rip currents. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.
